Environment & Society Graduate Fellows Program

The Environment & Society Fellowship was created in 2013 as a funding opportunity for graduate students to practice use-inspired, collaborative research and science communication. The Fellowship supports projects that connect social or physical sciences with the environment and decision-making. Projects must address research and information needs voiced by the students’ project partners. The Fellowship is funded and supported by CLIMAS, the University of Arizona Office of Research, Innovation, & Impact, and the Arizona Institute for Resilience.

The fellowship provides support for currently enrolled University of Arizona graduate students from any degree-granting program. Up to four fellowships in the amount of $4,750 each are awarded annually. Project examples include: developing informational or decision-support tools, generating outreach activities, examining societal impacts of environmental change, analyzing the vulnerability and resilience of people and/or ecosystems, and conducting environmental science research for specific stakeholder needs. More broadly, proposals should fall under one or more of these categories: scoping research, dissertation/thesis work, a discrete 1-year project, outreach, and/or network building. The fellowship is open to students conducting research anywhere in the world.
