I am a PhD student in the School of Geography and Development. I work as a research assistant for Dr. Andrew Comrie, a principle investigator for CLIMAS. My research focuses on the connection between climate and disease ecology, specifically for vector-borne diseases such as West Nile virus and Dengue Fever. This is accomplished through climate driven dynamic modeling of mosquito populations. The ultimate goal is to elicit patterns of disease occurrence in mosquitoes, animals, and humans in relation to specific climate and weather phenomena. Developing some predictive power enables us to mitigate the effects of disease on human populations.
Future projects will integrate other components of disease ecology into the current mosquito model. This includes viral development, reservoir species, and possibly human interactions with the environment. By considering all components of the ecology of a disease, we can choose the most effective intervention strategies.
