Urban Water Study

Project Overview

This project provides insight into the ways that climate- and weather-related factors affect urban water systems in the Southwestern United States, and whether and how water providers and other decision makers use available information in coping with such events and situations. The goals of the project are to:
  • Provide useful perspectives regarding the role of climate variability in determining water supply and demand.

  • Increase awareness of the importance of climate variability in water resource planning.

  • Inspire closer examination of the utility of current climate forecasts.

  • Encourage water managers to further integrate additional forecast information in planning annual and longer-term water use.
Four components of the urban water initiative have been completed (choose a link to learn more about a component):

A. Urban Water Sensitivity Analysis

B. Water Law and Policy

C. Case Study of Urban Water Providers in Arizona

D. Urban Water Issues in Flagstaff
