Mindy is a PhD student in the School of Geography and Development. She joined CLIMAS in August 2009 as a graduate research assistant. Her interests focus on the ecology of infectious diseases, particularly those that are mosquito-borne. As a CLIMAS team member on the ‘Climate and Health’ project, Mindy developed user documentation material and a webpage for the Dynamic Mosquito Simulation Model (DyMSiM), which generates mosquito population information for a specific location based upon climate and environmental information. Using this model as a tool, Mindy is now exploring relationships between climate and dengue fever. She plans to incorporate this with work on mosquito control and management to understand how social and physical systems of disease interact with regards to dengue fever emergence.
