Zack Guido

Associate Staff Scientist, Climate Assessment for the Southwest, University of Arizona

MS, Geology, University of Colorado, 2005

Zack joined CLIMAS in April 2008 as a research associate to improve the public’s climate science and climate change literacy. With CLIMAS, Zack manages a monthly newsletter which provides stakeholders with the best available summary of the current and near-future climate in the Southwest. For this newsletter, The Southwest Climate Outlook, Zack writes feature articles and other content that investigates important climate-related issues to people in the Southwest. Zack also researches the effects of El Nino – Southern Oscillation on climate variability in the Southwest and aids other colleagues from CLIMAS and the Institute for the Environment with research and outreach projects.

Zack’s professional interests focus on effectively communicating science to decision-makers and helping impoverished communities in developing countries become less vulnerable to climate change. To accomplish this, Zack draws on his academic experience in paleoclimatology and his profession consulting background in hydrogeology and water resource planning. Zack also has worked for more than five years in rural water development in Bolivia, South America, and he co-founded a non-profit organization that helps protect rural Andean communities from climate-driven changes in water supplies.
