Following on our 2000 and 2001 meetings, this workshop is designed to bring together key fire management and climate experts to review the 2001 fire season, assess the potential fire risk for 2002, and present research on the relationship between climate and fire. Fire in the West will emphasize forecast activities to a greater degree than previous workshops. As in past years, the workshop will introduce new information and discussion topics designed to improve understanding and use of climate information in fire management as well as strengthening ties between climate specialists, fire managers and decision makers.
